In April of this year, just before Easter, Bikedock will be running the first ever Bike Recycle Project in conjunction with the Ulster Cancer Foundation (UCF).
How does it work?
Unused bikes and trikes are brought to Bikdedock during a two week period in March (13th - 27th March, Mon – Sat, 9.30am-5.00pm).
The bike is assessed on arrival for its suitability. If it can be reused, the bike is fully serviced and set aside for the Easter Bike Recycle Project in April. If unsuitable for use the bike will be given to Belfast City Council to be recycled accordingly.
Details of the donor, bike and its subsequent process will be logged on the Bikedock website and The Ulster Cancer Foundation will acknowledge donation with thanks (unless otherwise specified)
On the weekend of the 15th - 17th April the Bikedock Easter Bike Recycle Project will take place. Here bikes will be categorised into three or four sections (according to value). These will then be open to the public for viewing. The person selects the bike of their choice. A sum of money is then donated for an amount equivalent or greater than the minimum value of the bike.
The project will also raise funds to purchase special needs bicycles and trikes for a special needs school in Belfast. These funds will come from unused bicycles and trikes donated on behalf of the school by parents, families or friends.
In all, the school will receive 60% of the value received and the Ulster Cancer Foundation will receive 40% (after the costs of servicing the bikes have been deducted). The value received by the school will take the form of a Bikedock voucher which can be redeemed against the cost of trikes and associated accessories.
Interested?
Either drop the bicycle into the shop or if the distance isn't too far we may be able to collect, you can get more info by contacting the shop on 02890730600, emailing us at web@bikedock.com or by sending us a message on Facebook.
