Marathon season is coming to a close, so why not have one more run for the road? The Castleblayney 5km Flat Race and Fun Run/Walk happens on Sunday, December 4th and is proudly presented by Castleblayney Faughs GFC. Not only will you get to let off some steam but also you’ll be rubbing shoulders with some giants of the running world including special guest Gerry Duffy, who grabbed national headlines recently after completing 32 marathons in 32 days. He is also the DECA Iron Man European record holder, having completed the event ten times. The Castleblayney 5km Flat Race also signifies a reunion for Gerry and his 32 Marathon Challenge running partner Ken Whitelaw, who haven’t run together since their 32nd marathon on August 2nd last year. Castleblayney’s inaugural 5km race will mark the end of a 12-week training programme “Operation TransFAUGHSmation” designed to get people running who never have before. The whole community have bought into the idea of getting healthier for life this Autumn. In excess of 120 people are currently involved and it’s not too late to get in on the act either. For more information check out www.castleblayneyfaughs.com or www.runireland.comAll proceeds of this event, designed to ignite community spirit, will go the Irish Heart Foundation and St. Mary’s Hospital, Castleblayney. A massive crowd is expected on December 4th and registration will take place at 1pm. The race will start at 2pm. So, dust off your runners, because if you miss this, you’ll miss out!
