After the hugely successful “Connemara Rough Diamond”, which took place earlier this summer, the team have now come up with a fresh new event which will appeal to hikers, mountain runners and sports enthusiasts in general. All profits from this event will go towards the foundation of The Connemara Athletics Club.
ConnQuest Connemara is a 10k 4 peak Quest and a half marathon mountain trail, 2 unique events running in conjunction that will take you to some of Connemara’s amazing mountain tops, where you can witness some of the most spectacular scenery that Ireland has to offer.
The 10k Quest sets off from picturesque Lettergesh Beach in Renvyle and includes a series of various challenges which will test your endurance (and your sense of humour), all the while being refreshed with the breathtaking views that will surround you.
Tests of skill include the quirkily named challenges such as ‘Robin Hood Challenge’, ‘Duck Sailing’ and ‘Holy Grail’ and our most interesting challenge ‘Shoot the Gimp’ (watch out for demo videos of this on the website) You can also be prepared for a few surprises!
Adapted from the Olympic Games biathlon event, the challenges along the way will have either time or distance penalties if not achieved, so a test of concentration as well as a test of speed! It is a mentally challenging yet fun event which can be trekked, jogged or run depending on your fitness level. The Quest will finish off with a proper beach “dash” before the finish line at the Connemara Caravan Park, where you can have a hot shower (or a swim in the sea!) and a hot meal.
The half-marathon course is for the more serious athletes who really want to test their stamina as the course will run over four mountain peaks and will not include any of the challenges found in the Quest, but runners will experience an elevation change of 2,800m while running through tough yet stimulating mountain terrain, making it a real hardcore and enduring test.
And if you’re really up for the challenge, you can do all this while taking in the glorious, panoramic views of Killary Harbour, the Maam Turks, Twelve Bens and the Atlantic Ocean. A testing, demanding course which is not for the faint hearted and will take you to some inspiring places that few have ever ventured.
For the price of 39 euro each participant will receive a technical t-shirt (retail 30euro) and a hot meal (bbq at the beach) and are guaranteed a fun day out at this fantastic event.
All profits will go towards the foundation of The Connemara Athletics Club.
